PLATEAU DU CUSCIONU
The “plateau du Cuscionu”, located in the southern center of Corsica, stretches across 70 000 hectares shared between 4 communes: Zicavo, Aullène, Serra di scopamene and Quenza.
Situated at an altitude of 1400m to 1700m, the site is formed by a set of granitic rocks separated by small valley and plane surface.
We can see some “tafoni” (hole in the rock). Formerly, they could be set up by the people as places to live to protect themselves from cold and rain.
It’s in the first part of the walk that are the wet lawns. In the middle of them, we can find small streams called “pozzine”. These “pozzine” are irrigated here by the stream of Codi and fed by the snow melt. This wet environment, which gives a bright green color to the landscape, is very fragile because of the presence of specific and endemic plants.
The “plateau du Cuscionu” is a magic place. This is a refuge for bearded vultures, eagles, kites, wild pigs, mouflons, wild horses, cows, but also for the fauna and flora, between richness and diversity.
It’s also possible to visit the site thanks to 3 heritage path (“sentier du patrimoine”) :
-Sentier de l’eau (Path of the water)
-Sentier de la pierre (path of the rock)
-Sentier des bergers (path of the shepherds)
